Louise Giblin (1963-) works on the East Sussex/Kent border, UK. She was elected Associate to the Royal British Society of Sculptors in 2010.
Louise studied Three-Dimensional Design, Fine Art/Sculpture B.A. and the History and Theory of Modern Art M.A at Portsmouth College, Brighton Polytechnic and Chelsea College. Her tutors were Antony Gormley (creator of ‘Angel of the North’), Peter Randall-Page and Edward Allington.
As a leading body cast sculptor, her subject matter is portraiture and the human form. Sensual, striking sculpture is produced in clay with detailed, fragmented and abstracted imagery applied to the surface, then cast in bronze, translucent resin or cold cast metals. Ideas are developed from research, observation sketches and digital imagery. Models have included musicians, medics, sports people, artists, businessmen, lawyers, students, a Miss World contestant, a pole dancer and a priest.
Louise’s sculpture and drawings have been exhibited in London, across the UK, the United States and Hong Kong.
Body Casting Olympians
In 2011 five top athletes were body cast for her Olympian Series to be launched at Body Casting Olympians, the Mall Galleries in London 21-26 May 2012.
Her aim for the series is to produce sculptures focusing on physical power and personal triumph. Those included are 2012 Olympian contender Beth Tweddle MBE (above right), Dame Kelly Holmes, Sally Gunnell OBE, Kriss Akabusi MBE, and Paralympian quadruple medallist swimmer Darren Leach. Sales of these sculptures will support the charity Headfirst championed by popular entertainer Cheryl Baker.
Living Legends 2014
Louise is now planning for her 2014 exhibition, Living Legends. Casting for this commenced December 2011 with ex-Cabinet Minister, broadcaster Michael Portillo. This series will support the charitable work of the Lords Taverners and other charities chosen by the models.
